How Your Clear Aligners Are Made in Oklahoma City

Every set of clear aligners is custom-made for one person. Between your scan appointment and your first fitting, your case goes through a series of digital and physical steps. Here's what happens behind the scenes.

Your provider's digital scan (or, in some practices, a physical impression) is sent to the lab. The first job is making sure the model is complete and accurate, because everything that follows depends on it.

Each tooth is digitally separated from its neighbors and from the gums so it can be moved on its own. A treatment planner then designs the movement of every tooth toward its target, adding attachments and small amounts of spacing where needed. Your provider reviews this plan, requests changes if necessary, and approves it.

Teeth can only move a small amount at a time. The plan is split into stages, and each stage becomes one set of aligners. That's why treatment involves a series of trays rather than one.

A physical model of your teeth is 3D printed for every stage of treatment. These models are the molds that each aligner will be shaped over.

A sheet of medical-grade clear plastic is heated until it becomes flexible, then vacuum- or pressure-formed tightly over each printed model. As it cools, it takes on the exact shape of that stage of your treatment.

Each aligner is trimmed along the gumline, the edges are smoothed so they're comfortable against your cheeks and gums, and the finished trays are inspected for fit and clarity. They're labeled in order and packaged for your provider.
